The Chateau Grimaldi, Picasso Museum

In 1925 the château of Antibes was in ruin and taken over by Romuald Dor de la Souchère in order to convert it into a museum. In 1946, Picasso who was looking for a large workshop in which to paint his colossal works, the artist has stayed 6 months. When he left he offered the Town everything he had created, a truly outstanding collection : 2255 colossal canvasses, drawings, sketches and 150 ceramics created in Vallauris. The Picasso museum later enriched by further paintings and sculptures of Miro, Modigliani, Léger, Ernst, De Staël…You must have a tour on the Terrasse of the museum where you can admire works of Germaine Richier, Poirier, César… there is an outstanding panoramic view.

 

 

Museum de la Tour (Tour Gilli)

These remains of the medieval enclosure were inhabited for 150 years by a family of fishermen, the Gilli. Since 1980, it houses a museum of the arts and crafts that were popular in the XVIII and XIX centuries.

 

Peynet Museum

The museum exhibits 300 works of this famous drawer of the lovers who lived in Antibes from 1950 (posters, drawings…)

 

“Le Fort Carré”

Built in the 16th century, it was so well designed and so well defended it was never taken. Vauban perfected it and adapted it to new military techniques. Today, a listed historic monument, it is owned by the city.
